Barcelona ‘could move to sign Cristian Stuani’ as they continue to search for a striker to replace the injured Luis Suarez.
Suarez has been ruled out of action for at least four months with ligament damage in his knee and the Catalan side are short of attacking options.
Stuani has been in superb form for Girona in the Segunda Division and El Mundo Deportivo reports that he is of interest to Barcelona.
One stumbling block could be that Stoani’s release clause is £21 million but would be worth less on a resale by Ernesto Valverde at 33.
He was said to be available for around £6million in January last year so those at the Nou Camp may not be willing to pay more.
Barcelona are reportedly targeting Girona striker Cristian Stuani to address their lack of options in attack.
Sportsmail reported earlier on Wednesday that Getafe forward Angel was Barca’s first choice, to be brought in as an emergency replacement for injury-hit Ousmane Dembele.
So, now a recently report from Spanish media Deportes Cuatro claims that Stuani is the better option, ahead of both Angel and Villain Jose.
The rumors said that Girona start is contracted to his current La Liga club until the summer of 2023 but has around to £16.9m release clause.
He has scored 22 goals in 20 games for the La Liga 2 club this season after scoring 19 goals in the top flight last season.
The La Liga champions have also lost Luis Suarez for four months, so reinforcements are needed for the rest of the season.
Injuries to both Suarez and Dembele have left Barcelona at the top, with only Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and 17-year-old Ansu Fati currently fit.
Since the transfer window has closed, Barca can only sign players who are playing in Spain or who are currently unemployed, and anyone they sign will not be able to play in the Champions League.
The forward has not spoken specifically about the Catalan, but has admitted that his future at Montevideo is not certain.
The Uruguayan’s spot-kick against Espanyol broke La Liga Santander’s record and almost earned Girona a point at the Estadi Montilivi, only for Sergi Darder to finally unleash a sublime strike.
The opposite team were awarded a oppertunity and giving a penalty when Roberto Rosales was controversially decide to have handled in the area after meeting with VAR.
When Stuani put past Diego López in the 80th minute, he set a new record for consecutive penalties converted.
Girona striker now scored 16 from 16 during his Spanish league La Liga, this is his best career best performance and surpassed Manuel Alfaro’s 15 from 15 with his spot kick on Saturday.
With his goal against Valencia on Sunday, Girona striker Cristian Stuani made it 38 goals in 59 games for the Catalan club, becoming the top scorer in their history.
The Uruguayan has surpassed two of the club’s legends and fan favourites, Jindro Castro, who scored 37 goals, and Felipe Sanchon, who scored 35 goals.
Furthermore, Stuani has equaled Manuel Alfaro’s record and is now the only active La Liga Santander player to have managed to score 15 penalties without conceding.
