Former MLB star Randall David Johnson was born on September 10, 1963 in Walnut Creek, California. While his father, Rollin Charles Johnson, was a police officer, his mother, Carol Hanna, was a homemaker and was raised with five siblings.

As a child, Randy Johnson developed an interest in sports as he was already a standout basketball and baseball player at Livermore High School.

After graduating from high school, Johnson had the option to become part of the Atlanta Braves who drafted him in 1982 and were ready to offer him.
